Taking Cuttings From A Basil Plant
Now, you could do this to any herbs you have. I am not 100% sure if the ones without roots or pots would work. However, you should try.
I wanted to have my own supply of Basil coming so I hatched the plan to buy a plant and take many cuttings from it!
"So what did you do?"
I bought my plant from an organic supply shop. I had tasted a lot of the vegetables from there in the past and was knocked out at how they tasted "just like when I was young" I said to myself. I thought I had been romanticising the past but, fruit and especially vegetables, really DID taste better from this place compared to what the supermarket had to offer, organic or GM.
After this reality wake up, I hatched the plan to buy some herb plants. Basil was bought first as a sort of test. I also bought a few potatoes and put them in my airing cupboard.. but that's another story! (or video!)
I took the a few cuttings from the Basil plant and put the cuttings into a glass of water. My girlfriend told me that the cuttings would just shrivel and die.. but they didn't. about a week and a half later the roots started to form. I put the cuttings into a pot and set out cutting what was left of the poor basil plant.
What you see in the first shot of the video is the first two cuttings I speak of, the others are from the second cutting session!
See what I did....
All In All..
I had a good time taking these cuttings. You feel a little bad at first, cutting a plant up but in the end it is all worth it!
I am not too sure what is wrong with my camera's focus but the video goes out of focus at one point (the soil with its holes bit) but I think you can still enjoy the video. It is meant to inspire you to do the same.. As it really is so simple :)

Cuttings are the easiest way to get new plants. It's also fun to watch the roots develop!
Neat video with a really cute ending. :) Have you ever thought of using your voice to do readings with? My first thought was, "This guy could make money reading children's books!"

I take cuttings and root them from as many plants as possible, it's a very efficient and cost effective way to cultivate new plants. I use the new plants myself to multiply my own stock, or give them away to family and friends who always appreciate it.
It's a simple enough process, as long as one takes care. Thanks for sharing ;)
